Exploration of Pyramids

When a Paraoh died he became Osiris which is King of the Dead and when there was a new pharaoh he was the King of the Heavens. This was how they believed the sun rose and set. His "Ka" also remained in his body and if it was not treated well then the cycle of the sun would be broken. When a pharaoh died, he was built a tomb. This was origionally carved in bedrock with a mound of dirt on it. Later, though, they were buried in pyramids which were built on benben which symbolized the rays of the sun. The pyramids were built by villagers. The people took pride in their work and wrote on the wall to show alliegience to the pharaoh. To build the Pyramid of Giza there was around 30,000 people. To build the pyramids they floated large blocks of limestone to the pyramid and pushed them up the ramps on the pyramid. Architects came to make sure the stones were positioned correctly. Priest-astronomers came also to find the pyramids site so it was in line with sacred constellations. ("National")
